My best tips: Vintage Shopping

If you want to shop vintage for your home and need a few guidelines, read on here.

In recent years, I have become fond of shopping for interior design in thrift stores and markets, and occasionally I am also lucky enough to find unique vintage furniture.

When I shop vintage, however, I am very careful to follow some of my own guidelines so that I select some good and well-considered items.

GUIDELINES:

Revisit stores: Select a few thrift stores that you visit regularly. Their stock is often updated with new items (every week), so it is beneficial to visit these stores at regular intervals. Go through the shelves thoroughly, as the best finds are often hidden among many other things. This way it is also easier to spot if the stores have suddenly put up something new.

Have an agenda: Go thrift shopping with an agenda, where you have an idea of what you're looking for before you go to the store. This can help you stay focused and avoid impulse purchases. I often go into a thrift store because I know I need a very specific thing, and it makes it more manageable.

Textiles: Be careful if you are going to buy recycled furniture and interior with textiles. For example, if it is a chair where you can reupholster the seat, it is not a problem, but be careful in relation to carpets and furniture where the textiles cannot be removed, as these materials can contain many years of dirt and odors.

Patience: It can take time to find the perfect vintage items, so be patient. You may end up visiting the same store over and over again until you find just the right one.

Spontaneous purchases: If your gut feeling is there right away, and you feel like you've got your hands on something completely unique, then it's time to take action.

I have often found things I am unsure about, and if I return after a few weeks and the item is still there, I end up buying it. I have passed the rolling pin in the top picture at least 10 times over the past six months. But when I suddenly needed something new for this place in the pantry, it made sense to buy it.

So where should you shop?

I can recommend shopping at the following places:

Take Now, Brugtvareterminalen in Aarhus, Bagagerumsmarked on Ingerslevs Boulevard, Marketplace and Etsy.
