5 tips to optimize your interior design

It's easy to make "small mistakes" in your interior design that mean that the whole or the atmosphere just isn't fully felt in your home. Here are 5 tips to help you avoid these small mistakes and instead optimize your interior design.

Use multiple materials in the interior design. Many people are afraid to mix materials because they are afraid that they won't match. But the truth is that if you mix it right, they compliment each other very well. You can easily mix light wood and dark wood, if you generally stick to a few types of wood with the same glow. And you can also easily mix steel and brass in the interior. The balance is to make it tasteful. TIP: Run a common thread through the interior with a maximum of two different types of “hardware”, but you are welcome to mix glossy and matte. For example, use stainless steel in the utility room and burnished brass in the kitchen. But you can also easily install handles in, for example, burnished brass and fixtures and lamps in stainless steel.

Avoid placing furniture right up against the walls. Often people want to save space, and that's why most people place their furniture up against the walls. This is regardless of whether it's a console table, desk or sofa. But the truth is that you create more flow of air in the interior by pulling it away from the walls. There will of course be situations where this is not possible, but if you have the space, then definitely move the furniture further out into the room, so that some environments are created around the room. And if you don't like seeing the back of your sofa because it seems closed, then you can very advantageously place a console table up against the back of the sofa, so that a welcoming zone is created.

Find the right location for your images. Pictures and paintings are often hung too high. A small picture should not be placed alone on a large wall, and if you want to hang a picture a little higher up, you should place something under the picture. Here it is recommended to place a chair or bench to create unity.

Remember the fun. In an attempt to create a minimalist home, there is often a lack of personal elements that help create coziness. Combining a modern element with an antique or heirloom element can create depth in the interior and help break up the strict lines.

It's all about balance. The balance between coziness but at the same time avoiding too many knick-knacks that can create unrest in the interior. Everything in moderation, and if you still find it difficult to create the right balance, you can find an incredible amount of inspiration on Pinterest.

Feel free to use contrasts. Don't you dare to use patterns or different materials?

The interior can easily become a bit “flat” if you don’t use different elements that can create some contrast. It can be anything from different textiles that compliment each other, to colors or nuances in the home. It can also be nice to have a few surprising elements in some rooms such as wallpaper or a large rug. This helps to create contrasts in the home, and thus create warmth, charm and coziness.
