5 TIPS: Styling shelves

To create a harmonious look when styling shelves, it's all about creating balance in the different elements you use for styling. I've created a five-point guideline that can be used as a good guide in your styling:
1: Create small groups
Rule: Create small groups of 3-5 pieces that can be placed together. This could be, for example, 2 books and a vase.
Benefit: By placing items in groups, the styling looks more unified and calm. Small groups also create focal points and make it easier for the eye to navigate around the shelf.
2: Variation in height and size
Rule: Make sure to vary the height and size of the objects to create visual interest.
Benefit: Variation in heights and sizes adds dynamism and life to the shelves, creating a more exciting and inviting visual experience.
3: Uniform color and material selection
Rule: Create a common thread in colors and choice of materials. Feel free to repeat some of the same choices on the different shelves.
Benefit: Consistency in colors and materials creates a nice sense of coherence and harmony. It helps tie the different elements together and gives a more finished feel.
4: Use baskets for storage
Rule: Use baskets for storage to create order on the shelves
Benefit: Baskets are ideal for hiding clutter and keeping small items organized. They also add texture and warmth to the look of shelves.
5: Place the objects away from the wall
Rule: Avoid placing the objects right up against the wall, as this will make the styling look closed in, and instead make sure to give the placement a little air.
Benefit: By pulling the styling away from the wall, the various objects come into their own and are noticed. In summary, it provides more visual interest and improves the overall aesthetic when you make sure that the objects on the shelves have some space and are not placed right up against the wall.
Please note that there is a difference between arranging open shelves or shelves behind a front in a display cabinet. With open shelves you can be more creative and playful with the placement of objects, as they are more visible.
When arranging shelves in a display cabinet, keep in mind that the objects placed behind the glass doors will also need to be visible through the doors. Therefore, it is important to think about how things look from different angles, and perhaps choose more decorative and cohesive elements.
By following these guidelines, you can achieve a harmonious and stylish presentation on your shelves, whether they are open or in a display cabinet. Each shelf will thus become an integral part of your interior design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
